Sustainability

Sonoking is committed to ensuring that the utilization of forest products today does not jeopardize the usage of the same resources by future generations. Our goal is to make sure that all our products are obtained from trees that are grown and harvested in environmentally responsible and well managed forests.

American hardwoods, in particular, can boast proven sustainability. The RPA 2007 Assessment (a nationwide forest inventory mandated under U.S. federal law) shows that between 1953 and 2007, the volume of U.S. hardwood growing stock more than doubled from 5,210 million m3 to 11,326 million m3. U.S. Forest Service forecasts indicate that further increases of 15 to 20 percent are expected in the hardwood growing stock inventory through 2030.

Projections of hardwood growth and removals nationwide indicate that growth will continue to exceed removals through to 2050.

As requirements for proof of legality and sustainability become more commonplace and as the green building movement drives demand for certified wood products, Sonoking, as a member of the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers, Inc. (AHMI), is well positioned to offer a wide range of products that are verified sustainable.

Please join us in our commitment to supply legal and sustainable wood products and our long-term approach to caring for the environment.
